Notes from the Corner
Painting Trim
Trim provides a frame for your room and allows you to make a wall or a space pop out. Color is one of the most important considerations – one idea is painting a neutral wall, but paint your trim black or a darker color. According to Steve, you want your trim to coordinate or contrast with the wall in most cases. However, you can also choose a different color that makes it stand out. Either way, trim doesn’t require a lot of paint. One important note: mistakes when painting trim is more likely to stand out, so it is essential to take your time and ensure you have plenty of prep materials like painter’s tape and drop cloths.
Painting Accent Walls
An accent wall or two in a room can help draw attention and make a change in a space. Accent walls add dimension to a room, break up open floor plans, and create a certain mood for the space. You can find inspiration within the room, such as picking up the color of a piece of art or furniture, or you can look through any of Benjamin Moore’s 3500 colors and their pairings for like colors. Cardinal Home Center also color-matches paint, so if you want to match something, we can help get it right. Choosing which wall to paint also depends on a few factors, such as sunlight or a focal point. Nooks and other spaces within a wall can also draw attention.
Painting Entryways
Although we typically don’t spend much time in entryways, it can be a first impression space. For guests that come over, this space sets the mood for what the rest of your home will look like. If your home has some eclectic pieces, you might pick a different color, or if you want a neutral look, you can go with off-white. Look at the space, determine if you want to coordinate with flooring or shelving, and consider the light coming into the room. Another note: if you have a lot of foot traffic, a more durable paint will make cleaning scuff marks and dirt easier.
